Resilient Roots Milwaukee – Community Power. Climate Justice. Cultural Resilience.
Resilient Roots Milwaukee is a community-led initiative rooted in the heart of Milwaukee’s 53206 zip code — one of the most historically disinvested neighborhoods in the nation. Anchored by JC Legal Resources Center, INC, the project aims to transform vacant and underutilized properties into Neighborhood Resilience Hubs that combine clean energy, digital empowerment, and cooperative ownership to build sustainable, self-determined futures for Black and Brown residents.

At its core, Resilient Roots is about shifting power — environmental, economic, and political — back into the hands of the community. By integrating solar energy systems, geothermal heating/cooling, public tech access, and culturally rooted healing spaces, the initiative addresses critical needs in climate justice, housing equity, energy affordability, and public health.

The Resilient Roots project is a response to decades of redlining, environmental racism, and systemic neglect. Through a bold vision for community ownership, green infrastructure, and youth-led organizing, Resilient Roots seeks to build not only physical resilience to climate change, but also intergenerational resilience — honoring local wisdom, cultivating leadership, and healing historical harms.
